Here’s a step-by-step description of what your project will entail.

Step 1: Estimate & Measure Existing Countertops

Schedule an appointment with a member of our sales team. We will show you samples of the available stone colors and finishes to get an idea of the look you are after. Next, we will go over the layout. You will be shown edges from which to select. We will discuss the difference between undermount sink prep and drop-in sinks in the sink area. We will gladly show you our selections if you need a sink and faucet. Once we have made some selections, we can work up a quote using the measurements provided. Click Here for How To Measure.

Step 2: Signing the Contract with Your Countertop Installers

Once you feel comfortable and ready to commit to the project, we will require a deposit when signing the contract with your countertop contractor. At this stage, our team will also review the installation process with you, outline any removal of old countertops, and confirm details like materials, edges, and backsplash preferences so your project is set up for success.

Step 3: Choosing Your Granite Slabs & Materials

We will send you to one of our distributors to choose the material for your granite countertops. Once you have chosen your material, your name and Kitchen & Bath by Design name will be put on a hold ticket; you can rest assure that you will receive the exact granite selection you have made and that the delivery of your granite will be made to our shop for fabrication in a timely manner.

Step 4: Templates – Sink, Faucet Holes & Cooktop Prep

We will call you within 48 hours of signing your contract to schedule your template date. On this day, we will require that the countertops be clear of any objects. The template takes anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the size of your project. You must also provide any sinks, faucets, cooktops, or anything that might require a hole/cutout. Our measure technician will bring your sinks to our shop to get the exact cutout for your sink.

We will also get the details and specifications concerning your granite countertops when we do your template, which are:

  • Overhangs
  • Radius
  • Personal Preferences
  • Possible seam placement will be discussed (But final placement of seams will be determined by the bridge saw operator)
  • Sink, Faucet, and Stove cutouts will also be discussed

Step 5: Fabrication – Cutting & Shaping Stone Countertops

We will use your template to set it on your granite slab. After we’ve cut the pieces from the slab, our expert fabricator takes over. The fabricator is responsible for polishing and shaping the raw stone cuts, especially the sharp edges.

Once the fabricator has finalized the template pieces, they move on to the final inspection stage, where our quality Control team will thoroughly review your granite pieces to ensure they are free of flaws.

Step 6: Installation – Removing Old Countertops & Securing the New Surface

Your salesperson will call with the installation date and time window. If we remove the existing countertops, we will have them cleared entirely. Any appliances, décor, or clutter in the work area should also be moved to provide easy access for our team. Please empty your cabinets under the sink base so our countertop installers can secure the new surface properly. During this stage, we will carefully fit the slabs, align seams, and ensure the sink and faucets are positioned correctly for beauty and functionality. Our installers will complete your countertop installation in a clean and timely manner. Please wait 24 hours before hooking up the plumbing to your sink for proper epoxy setting and additional protection against leaks.
